A motor fault in the automatic tuner of the ICOM 756 (Classic) is indicated by a loud noise when the transceiver is switched on. In addition, problems occur during tuning while operating on the bands.
The cause is a loosening of the drive coupling on the motor shaft relative to the ferrite core. The repair involves gluing the plastic drive coupling(I’ve used two-featured Poxipol glue), mounted on the motor shaft, to the ferrite core.
After this repair, the automatic antenna tuner began operating correctly.
